PROGRAMS  AND  LESSONS

Unlock your potential, gain confidence, and have a blast out on the slopes with the Pine Knob Ski and Snowboard School. All levels and abilities welcome. Lessons from beginner to black diamond and orange oval, prepare for a trip out west, join the race league, and enjoy rail jams. Enjoy a variety of learning programs to get yourself to the next level of confidence and fun. Safe and fun, guests of the ski and snowboard school have lots of customized options in the learning process. 

Professional, certified instructors teaching skiers and snowboarders are available for private, semi-private, and group lessons.

Private Snowboard Lessons

​Reach your full potential with one-on-one coaching from one of our expert certified instructors. Your personalized private lesson will help you to master the skills needed to move to the next level. Have fun while working at your own pace. No reservation required.

Semi-Private and Group Lessons

Learning with a semi-private or group is fun and a great way to develop your skills out on the slopes. Groups are created based on ability and are a great way to make new friends while improving your skills with a certified instructors. Semi-private lessons allow two or a few friends and/or family to learn together.

​Kindersparks
​Ski Program

Kindersparks is a 90-minute program for beginning skiers between the ages of five and ten years old. Group lessons are held in the beginners area and runs on Saturdays and Sundays in January and February from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Kindersparks should register before 12:30 p.m. at the Ski School Desk.

​Student Patch Ski
​Program

​The Student Patch Ski Program consists of seven lessons which are about 50 minutes long and are held at 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. weekday evenings at Pine Knob. Students earn a patches and gain access to more runs as they progress. Team teaching is used at Pine Knob for the first lesson. Children must be at least seven years old.

​Student Patch Snowboard Program

The Student Patch Snowboard Program is similar to the ski program but snowboarders have their own patches. Group lessons are a fun way to meet other snowboarders while learning with certified instructors. The snowboard program consists of four lessons which are about 50 minutes long and are held at 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. weekday evenings at Pine Knob.

Discover
​Michigan

During January, ski areas across the state teamed up with Michigan McDonald’s restaurants to offer an affordable introduction to the sport of skiing and snowboarding.

Discover Michigan is a program that includes a beginner lesson, ski or snowboard rental equipment, and a beginner lift area ticket for a low price. Details for 2021 will be announced.

HOLIDAY PARK CAMP

MOMS POPS & TOTS

Join us for three days of fun and learning using Pine Knob’s awesome terrain parks. This camp is an introduction to safely enjoy the unique challenges of our terrain parks. We will focus on riding and skiing skills related to success in the parks.

This is a skiing group for preschoolers and their caregivers. We will teach the caregiver how to have fun with their preschooler and give them the tools to enjoy a day on the slopes. It is a two hour program for four weeks.

BOOMERS ON GROOMERS

Join our senior skiing program. Tuesday mornings includes two hours of instruction, lunch, and time for free skiing. Stay fit and stay social all winter long.  It's about fun, fellowship and learning a little about skiing. ​

Thunderbolt Ski Racing Training Center

Thunderbolt Training Centers offer ski race training for young skiers. This program will improve overall skiing ability and prepare students to become serious racers. Explore your passion and the pursuit of excellence! Our program includes balance development, gate drills, course tactics, starts & finishes, slalom and giant slalom training, plus individual and video analysis. All training is implemented using the U.S. Ski Team training standards. 

We also offer racing competitions on Sunday mornings as well as adult racing leagues. Check it out!

​Thunderbolt Holiday Race Camp: SOLD OUT at Pine Knob
(Spaces are still available at Mt. Holly)


Our Holiday Race Camp is designed to provide the serious racer, as well as the recreational skier, the opportunity for extensive early season gate training and coaching. 

Areas of concentration include:
Ski improvement
Balance development
Timed runs / Race day preparation
Course tactics in both slalom and GS
Video analysis

December 27 -31 for five days 
​10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. daily

$475 (plus lift ticket)

Thunderbolt Junior Development Racing Program: FULL
​Waiting List Available


Our successful and most popular program will remain the same with the exception of all Sunday Morning Race Series being included in the price and a Thunderbolt T-shirt. 

This six week racing program will begin January 8, 9, or 11, 2020. This is our base level of commitment for skiers of all abilities and race experience. Racers will be grouped by age, ski ability and race experience. We will work on free skiing drills each week for 45 minutes and then be in the gates using gate drills and full courses. We will start with Giant Slalom (larger turns) on week one and alternate between slalom (short turns) and giant slalom.

Thunderbolt Sunday Morning Race Series

Participate in the competitive experience on Sunday mornings with our Sunday Morning Race Series. Combined timed racing open to all youth racers. Each week racers earn points towards the end of the season championship. Award ceremony immediately following each race. Open to ALL youth racers. This series travels between Mt Holly and Pine Knob.

Race #2 ... 1-17-2021 ... Pine Knob
Race #3 ... 1-24-2021 ... Mt. Holly
Race #4 ... 1-31-2021 ... Pine Knob

Race #7 ... 2-21-2021 ... Mt. Holly (Season Championships) 

$15 per race (discounted lift tickets available)

Helmet and goggles are mandatory.
Racers clearing gates must have a chin guard.
Hand, shin, forearm, and spine guards recommended.

Know the Code!

  • ALWAYS STAY IN CONTROL - and be able to STOP or avoid other people and objects.
  • PEOPLE AHEAD OF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
  • YOU MUST NOT STOP WHERE YOU OBSTRUCT a trail or are not visible from above.
  • ALWAYS USE DEVICES to help prevent runaway equipment.
  • OBSERVE ALL POSTED SIGNS AND WARNINGS. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
  • PRIOR TO USING ANY LIFT  you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride, and exit safely.

SNOWBOARD PARK SAFETY TIPS AND RULES
  1. MAKE A PLAN - Know each feature you will use. Check out the approach, take off, and landing.
  2. LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP - Go around the jumps first.
  3. EASY STYLE IT - Start small and work your way up. Know your limits.
  4. RESPECT GETS RESPECT. Respect the terrain and other people. One person on a feature at a time. Wait your turn and call your start. Stay off of closed features and terrain.
