Affordable Learning for School Age Children

The Pine Knob and Mt Holly Ski and Snowboard schools collaborate with local schools to create an affordable program for school age children to learn to ski and snowboard. Students develop skills and as they pass each level, they unlock access to new areas of the hill based on their performance. This provides a safe way for students to access the hill and to safely learn snow sports.

Student Club Patch Lesson Program Introduction

Student Club Lessons: Patch Ski Program

The student ski program consists of seven lessons which are about 50 minutes long and are held at 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. weekday evenings at Pine Knob and may only participate during their approved/scheduled club hours. Students earn patches and gain access to more runs as they progress. Team teaching is used at Pine Knob for the first lesson. Children must be at least seven years old.

Students receive two group ski lesson tickets or one group snowboard lesson with their student I.D. card and may participate at reduced rates between Monday and Friday from 3:00 p.m. until close (non-holidays). During the holidays, students may receive $10 off of their lift ticket when they present their membership card at the resort.

Students receive two snowboard lessons with their membership and may purchase additional lessons as needed.

Student Club Lessons: Patch Snowboard Program

The snowboard patch program is similar to the ski program but snowboarders have their own patches and will not be allowed on the lifts or hills with ski patches (for safety reasons). Group lessons are a fun way to meet other snowboarders while learning with certified instructors. The snowboard program consists of five lessons which are about 50 minutes long and are held at 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. weekday evenings at Pine Knob and may only participate during their approved/scheduled club times.

Participants must have a student snowboard I.D. card which allows students to snowboard at reduced rates Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. until close (non-holiday). During the holidays, students may receive $10 off of their lift ticket when they present their membership card at the resort.

Students receive one snowboard lesson with their membership and may purchase additional lessons as needed.

Patch Program

All club members agree to participate in a progressive lesson program. Lift tickets are restricted, meaning it is a beginner area ticket (Wonder Carpet lift and Rope Tow) until lessons are passed and patches are purchased. The patches indicate to our lift operators when students are proficient enough to ride on the chairlifts. Skiing and riding with a parent does not entitle a
student to ski wherever their parent takes them (unless they have bought a regular price lift ticket). The child must pass the appropriate lesson.

Lessons are 50 minutes and start at 5:00 or 6:30 p.m. at Pine Knob –or– 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. at Mt. Holly. Please inform your students to stand in line at the flag that corresponds to the color of patch they are trying to earn.

STUDENT CLUBS INFO - QUICK SUMMARY

Student Ski & Snowboard Clubs provide participants with a membership ID card. These allow students to get their lift ticket and rentals at a discounted price.

Skiers receive an ID Card and  membership includes two free ski lessons
Snowboarders receive an ID Card and  membership includes one free snowboard lesson.
Additional lesson tickets may be purchased at the Ski School Desk: $12.50 for a ski lesson, $25 for a snowboard lesson.

Sign up one week in advance (OR MORE) for your lesson.

Spaces are limited and classes fill up quickly. Classes are closed SEVEN days before the lesson date. If there are not at least four students in a lesson, it will be cancelled. Students may opt to go on a waitlist.

Lift tickets and rentals must be purchased by 1:30 p.m. for that day and it is recommended that students purchase these items early. If there is an attempt to purchase lift tickets or rentals and it is conducted at 1:31 p.m. that day, the system will default to the next week.

When students arrive at the resort, they meet their sponsor. Next they go get their rental equipment.

When it is time for their lesson students meet their instructors outside by the colored flags to check-in for the lesson they are signed up for and are encouraged to arrive five minutes early. (Students do not need to check in at the Ski School desk.)

After the lesson the students are released out on the hill where their lesson ends and are responsible for making their own arrangements to meet with their parents or guardians.

ATTENTION:

Students must pre-register for all club lessons a week or more in advance. If there is a class that does not appear to be available, it is typically because not enough students signed up (a minimum of four students is required to move forward).
